This weekend I went to Spain for the third time but the first time it was to the Southern Island of Ibiza which is certainly known for it’s nightlife. If you have ben around Sparkles and Shoes for a number of years you will know that clubbing is not really my jam but when one of my best friends told me that is what she wanted to do to celebrate her 30th birthday we bought the tickets and I took the trip.
We arrived late Thursday evening (read: 2am) and took a cab to Sant Antoni de Portmany where we were staying. In case you have not seen the news lately, Europe has bene having a massive heat wave and it was no joke, even in Ibiza, so after a very hot evening we headed to a beach club. Based on research and recommendations from friends we got beds / lounge chairs at Destino Pacha Resort and spent the day at the gorgeous pool at the resort set on a clifftop with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea. Growing up I never understood why people would want adult only resorts but it made for a lovely day of fresh seafood and wine poolside with a wonderfully chilled pool.
We went from the pool which was located in Ibiza town back to Sant Antoni de Portmany where we enjoyed a casual beachside dinner and then got ready for a night out. The Ibiza club scene does not even kick off til about 1am so we left the hotel around midnight to go to Hi Ibiza for David Guetta’s ‘F*** Me I’m Famous!’ show. As you might imagine it featured David Guetta who did not come on until 3:30am but also Idris Elba, Afrojack and more. We had read so many different things about the dress code – from wear as little as possible as it will be sweltering to cover up because the AC will be blasting and everything from you need to wear heels or you won’t get in to sneakers are perfectly fine. We were definitely dressed right in the middle of the pack and for dancing all night, were quite pleased with our flat shoe options!
With a late night Friday we slept in on Saturday and spent a casual day by the pool in Sant Antoni de Portmany before heading to the other side of the island for an incredible dinner at Amante. Amante Ibiza was again a recommendation from friends and as soon as we arrived we saw why – it was a stunning restaurant set in the cliffs above Sol Den Serra beach, Ibiza. Everything was delicious – from the watermelon cocktail of the day to the organic Spanish & Italian cuisine – we loved the burrata starter and the sea salt crusted seabass main course. We stayed for the sunset and left when it began to get dark, around 10pm, to get ready for another night out. My friend Ali turned 30 at midnight which we celebrated by blasting Whitney Houston and then headed to the next club, Pacha. The DJ of the night was Martin Solveig and it was another intense evening of strobe lights and dancing before heading home in the wee hours of the morning – quite typical of a weekend in Ibiza!
Hopefully you have enjoyed this brief reacp of my weekend in Ibiza, it was so pretty!
