It is funny how people freak out for big snowstorms and it seems the more panic and mayhem there is in New York City – I am talking isles and isles of empty grocery store shelves – the smaller the storm is. We were expected to get 18 inches of snow yesterday from Winterstorm Stella and I would say we got about five. It did stick, something that is never guaranteed in Manhattan, and it is white but it was definitely not all out panic mode. What was a shock though is that last week I was swimming at the Equator and this week I worked from home watching snowfall out my window all day – nuts! The weather is definitely a negative part of coming back home but I am excited to get back into my routine especially because my fitness usually gets thrown all out of whack when I travel.
When I am home I workout five to six times a week doing a combination of cardio / spinning and weight training. With an incredibly busy life I need to workout before I head to the office and that works quite well for me but when I am traveling – that gets thrown out the window. In October I was home for three nights total in the entire month and my fitness suffered as a consequence. Thus in 2017 I have vowed to make this better. One of the key ways I am going about this is to be prepared to workout whenever and where ever and that starts with packing the right things!
For me that includes a gym bag with comfortable quick-dry workout clothes, a great pair of sneakers, a great playlist, earbud headphones, a reusable water bottle, HAIRTIES (you would not believe how many times this is the culprit), and Oribit gum. Why gum you say? Most nutritionists, including mine, say to refuel within an hour after your workout but whether I am traveling or at home it always seems like does it seem like the closest option post gym is a pastry or a doughnut. While incredibly delicous that is not the first thing I want to reach for after a workout and sugarfree gum provides the flavor I am looking for! When traveling I like to fit in an hour workout in usually half cardio – a stairmaster is my preferred machine of choice – but any elliptical will do followed by body weight exercises and a variety of others with whatever weights or machines are available. What are your preferred machines at the gym?

I would workout ALL the time if the view looked like that! π I’ve been traveling in Chicago this weekend and the snow has certainly slowed me down a bit. Being from the south, even 1/4 inch of snow freaks me out π

You look great! While I don’t travel as much as you do our bags look similar and I agree forgetting a hair band is the worst – have you ever had to use a rubber band from the front desk? The worst!
