Remind me never to take a red eye plane again where the flight time is less than five hours – woof, I feel dead this morning and hopefully ALL the coffee can save me. The flight home is the only negative thing I have to say about my Labor Day weekend in Utah though. I had the best time visiting my friend Kortney and hanging out with her amazing family and friends.
On Friday night I got off the plane and instead of heading 45 minutes South to my friends house I took a quick cab ride to the Grand America where we got two hotel rooms for girls night. I knew all but one of the lovely ladies and within 10 minutes of dropping my bags I was changed and we were heading out the door. If you follow me on snap – ? kellydonlin – you will have seen how the whole night unfolded but for now I will just leave you with a few photos of our tremendously fun night out including an epic game of jumbo jenga!
Since we got back to the hotel in the wee-hours, which my New York jet lag did not thank me for, we slept in and made it to the last 30 minutes of brunch at the Grand America which was absolutely scrumptious. From there were said goodbye and piled in cars to head back down South to the Pleasant Grove, Orem, and Provo areas where most of the ladies live.
After two hours of unwinding we put on our athletic gear and headed to Provo Canon. In the canyon our destination was the Timpanogos Cave National Monument and where we hiked a few miles to the famous cave where we took a ranger guided tour through three massive rooms. The hike and tour were so picturesque that they will get their own post but the first photo and the next few are from our adventure Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday we woke up and went to a local park where we tried a new workout class which was a ton of fun and didn’t feel like working out which is always a win. After lunch we took an afternoon trip to Bridal Viel Falls which I had been to five years ago but only when it was mostly frozen and in the Summer months it is even prettier. On Sunday night my friend’s husband Dave grilled up steaks and we enjoyed them with a caprese salad made with fresh picked tomatoes and the view of the mountains from their backyard is gorgeous!
Yesterday, Labor Day, I slept it which was glorious and although I hate waking up being served breakfast in bed by the adorable eight-year-old Christopher was not a bad way to do it. After breakfast we went bowling a few miles from BYU and let me tell you – baby bowling shoes are just about the cutest thing ever, just take a look at Lily – the most adorable two year old who I really wanted to fit in my suitcase! After bowling we went to a fun house / arcade called Provo Beach where we played laser tag and I forgot how much I love that game!
After games we then headed out the back entrance and the group of 15 of us had delicious pizza and pasta at Malawi’s Pizza Provo Riverwoods. After that we headed home and spent a few hours relaxing, building Legos, coloring, and watching a marathon of Fixer Upper which I am now obsessed with. The last precious moments were spent enjoying some delicious sushi and admiring a gorgeous sunset before it was time to head to the airport and back to Nuevo York.
It was such a fun weekend and I am so glad I was able to go out and visit for three days! Kortney, come see me in New York City soon and thanks, as always, for a great trip!
