Welcome to the second part of my Toledo, Spain day! When we arrived in the gorgeous town outside of Madrid we took a bus tour, which you can see here, and afterwards. For the second part of our day in Toledo we got off the bus at The Alcázar and decided to explore the beautiful, old, quaint city. Having studied abroad in Rome I thought I was used to winding streets and dead end alleys but Toledo, the beautiful city on the hill, took it to a whole new level. Fromm The Alcázar we wanted to make sure to visit the famous cathedral, the number one thing to do in the city, as well as visit the monetary and getting there was tricky, even with Google Maps to guide us.
While the Catedral Primada was gorgeous let’s start with the best – my favorite part of the day was our trip to the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes. While the Monastery itself was quite pretty I would definitely put it in the nothing to write home about category but the cloisters on the other hand, they were another story entirely. To be honest, they might be the prettiest thing I saw my entire time in Madrid and that is saying something. The architecture was gorgeous and I love the orangery in the middle!
Now back to the Cathedral! On my master gdoc list on the trip under the Toledo tab I had “visit the cathedral, see the Carravagio” but once in a while my notes are wrong and this definitely should have said El Greco. The Cathedral of Toledo is well worth a visit – the audio guide is long but the courtyard and sanctuary contain the real treasures including the The Disrobing of Christ by El Greco, seen below on the High Altar of the sacristy.
After the Church we continued afternoon in Old Town Toledo visiting the Puerta de Bisagra and Estacion del Ferrocarril getting happily turned around in the beautiful city.
And make sure you follow me on Snap, kellydonlin, a few photos from the day:
