Happy Mother’s Day!

Now I don’t usually post on Sunday’s but today I have a very good reason to – to wish a very, very happy Mother’s Day to my amazing mom.  I will not get to spend today with her but that does not mean I am not thinking of her.  I was lucky enough to spend nine days in Spain with my mom last month and at the end of the trip neither of us was ready to say goodbye.  This is one of my favorite shots from the trip,  at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona where we listened to the Cantates de Bach and then went out to a fancy dinner. 

As I headed off on this trip a few people told me how great it was that I was going with my mother but the general reaction to the news of my travel companions was confusion. Some said, wait, you actually like your mom? Others said, but won’t you want to kill her by the end of it? And one even said, I can’t deal with my mom for more than 24 hours. To those people, I am sorry. My mom is the best and I love spending time with her – I am especially grateful when she is only a few feet away instead of a few states.

If we were in the same place today I am sure we would be having an excellent brunch somewhere followed by a family bike ride or a competitive game of tennis but instead I will give her a call and we shall talk for nearly an hour, I expect, as she gets ready for her next adventure.  Speaking of adventures, my amazing mom has been taking me on them for more than 25 years!  Want proof?  

I was recently chatting with a friend who described his mother as “the GOAT” which I quickly learned meant “the greatest of all time,” a sports acronym often used to describe Michael Jordan. While I am not big on the sports metaphors I would definitely argue that my mother is the GOAT as well and I love her dearly.
