Last night was the Oscars of fashion and there were a few winners and certainly a lot of losers. The grand event is always held on the first Monday in May and my recap took the place of today’s Mother’s Day Gift Guide because after the first few arrivals, I knew I just had to write about it. The grand evening always celebrates the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit and each year the attendees are encouraged to dress to the theme.
This year the exhibition is Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, which brings some of the world’s most cutting-edge fashion together to examine the relationship between couture and technology, the hand-created and the machine-made. Even with that description I don’t totally understand so I will just have to go see it soon! And before we get into the fashion I thought I would share a tid bit about the event, of which Anna Wintour is the chair, at $30,000 a ticket for the estimated 600 attendees, it is expected to raise $12 million for the Costume Institute. Without further ado, my best dressed!

Anna Wintour in Chanel Haute Couture

I also didn’t really get the theme. It seemed that anything with metallics was “on theme” lol. But some of them really did have tech in them! Heidi Klum’s dress lit up which I thought was so cool– it was like a modern day Cinderella dress. Nicole Kidman’s dress is also absolutely spectacular! I wish Taylor Swift had worn something cooler, considering she was the host and all. It’s so different seeing her with the bleach blonde locks and dark lips!
