This weekend was one of my favorite on record and I have to say a big thank you to all of the friends and family who called, texted, messages, and celebrated with me. My actual birthday was on Sunday but the fun started Thursday night. I have tremendously busy friends and as such finding one time to get them all together has proved near impossible but it is okay with me – I just get to celebrate my birthday over a longer period of time.
Thursday night I had a few drinks with a good friend from college who would be away for the weekend and Friday night I went to a delicious sushi dinner with a friend who would be running a a race on Sunday (and thus unable to go out Saturday night). I truly believe all birthday celebrations should begin with fresh sushi followed by Tasti D-Lite and when you add a pretty new gold iPhone 6s in there it does not hurt.
Saturday was quite busy as activated my new iPhone, attended outdoor boot camp, and spent a few hours editing photos from my trip for upcoming posts. I took a break to enjoy some delicious Mexican food for dinner and then spent wonderful two hours of getting ready for my birthday party. Sure, I could have gotten ready in 25 minutes but I enjoyed not being rushed and got all dolled up while watching the season premieres of Scandal and Empire. I decided on a black, long sleeve dress I bought in Vienna and accessorized it with gold jewelry and these cute Christian Siriano shoes.
Sunday morning I had a tasty brunch at a new spot on the Upper East Side, La Pulperia, where I opted for coffee instead of alcohol and enjoyed the Lobster and Baked Egg entree. You can not really go wrong with Fresh Maine lobster, frame baked egg, herbs, crema de blue cheese, fresh cream, and truffled scented grilled bread, it was delicious!
And then I went shopping because it is was my birthday and why not. My friend Laura wore the cutest top to my birthday party the night before and she told me she had just gotten it on sale on Banana Republic so I went to see if I could find it. It turns out they had it, there was one left in my size, it fit, and it was only $10.99 – winning! And I have decided this season I would like a Military green army jacket but this one at Banana was just not cutting it, the fit was too loose.
As you may have seen on my birthday wishlist I wanted an annual membership to the bike share program here in New York City and my parents were wonderful enough to buy it for me. I was planning on spend Sunday afternoon lounging in my apartment and working on the blog but the number of people renting bikes outside my window was just too temping and I decided to go on my inaugural ride. I rode around the Upper East Side at a very leisurely pace exploring the bike lanes and ended up on the East River path before returning my bike after five miles and 38 minutes. This is definitely a present I will use frequently!
The weekend ended with dinner at one of my favorite places, Fig & Olive. This NYC hotspot has been one of my go-tos since I moved to the city more than three years ago and I have been to every location. My brother and I enjoyed assorted crostinis to start in addition to their fresh bread and trio to of olive oils. I had my favorite bronzino for dinner, my brother had the veal, and to end we split the cheesecake.
Thank you to all who were a part of making this birthday so special!
