Yesterday afternoon I spent a few hours aimlessly wondering around Central Park by myself and it was glorious. For my birthday my friends and family all got together and I was able to pick out a new DSLR, as my Nikon D40x from 2007 had seen better days. (When you click the shutter button and only one out of ever three times does it take a picture, it gets pretty annoying.) After 45-minutes of intense discussion with four men at the amazing photo store, B&H, last weekend I came home with the Canon EOS Rebel T5i and I’m in love!
Last October I took a Central Park photography class and now, a year later, I came back to explore by myself. When I say “came back” the closest Upper East Side entrance to the park is exactly one mile from my apartment and I do go often, but this is the first time I have been back with my DSLR with the sole purpose of taking photos. These shots are by no means great but I wanted to publish them as a starting point, especially as I have spent very little time shooting in natural light.
Instead of reading the instruction manual I decided to to learn all about my new camera through trial and error and these are a few of the ones I like. I did not edit them in Photoshop but instead these are “as-is” shots of yesterday’s lazy Sunday afternoon in Central Park:

I had a blast exploring a new part of the park
and hope to spend many more weekends learning about my new camera!

I love Central Park. Every time I visit I discover something new about this majestic haven in the middle of chaotic Manhattan. Beautiful pics.
