Nighttime Routine Before You Need It

09/25/14 | Beauty, Environ, Neutrogena

Birthday week continues and with only a few days until I turn 24 I wanted to share a little something – I have started a nighttime routine.  There are more and more bloggers who talk about either wishing they started taking care of their skin sooner or giving praise that they had.  Since I look to them for the latest fashions and the delicious recipes why shouldn’t this be something else I should emulate?   I put it on my 101 in 1001 list in April and made myself a promise it was something I was going to do this year.

My nighttime routine used to consist solely of taking my makeup off, a swipe of toner, and a good scrub if I felt necessary.   And it was not until I received  skin care products from Environ, customized based on my skin type, that I realized my bright blue toner really might not be the best thing to be swabbing all over my face. So what am I doing now?  Well I am still using the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes which I have mentioned here, here, and here but the next five products are new:

Neutrogena Towelettes Environ AVST Moisturizing Toner - Environ B-Active Sebuwash -Environ AVST Eye Gel - Rapid Lash - Rapid Brow

Neutrogena Towelettes /  Environ B-Active Sebuwash / Environ AVST Moisturising Toner
Environ AVST Eye Gel /  RapidLash EyeLash Enhancing Serum / RapidBrow Brow Enhancing Serum

Last week when I had the chance to attend the Birchbox and Dr. Brandt event, which you may have seen on Twitter or Instagram, Dr. Brandt spoke with us for fifteen minutes and made one point about skin care really hit home.  He said that you need to start early and that you should think of it like brushing your teeth – no one would think about not brushing their teeth everyday and it is the same with your skin care routine – do it every day and make it a habit!

Environ B-Active Sebuwash - Environ AVST Moisturizing Toner - Environ AVST Eye Gel

It was a great affirmation of the routine I had started a few weeks before.  Everyone knows what makeup remover wipes are for so we will skip right over that and go for the face wash. I have to be honest, when I first used it I was confused – instead of a tingling sensation and little beads it was a viscous clear substance with a medicinal smell.  Like the toner I realized the face washes I had been using were chalk full of things that were not great for my skin – I continued to use it and was impressed – my mild acne toned down and overall I have been less shiny.  Immediately after washing my face I have begun using the Environ toner and as I mentioned before, it does not have a strong smell and it is not bright blue, which is probably a good thing for my skin.

Similar to the face wash, there was no immediate or radical difference with the toner right away but I am very pleased with the subtle changes after more than a month.   Then, the eye gel.  This one I am really not sure on. – I am using it as instructed but I do not see a difference.  However, I am going to apply the same mentality as I do with exercise – it is easier to work out and maintain your weight than it is to let yourself go and then try to loose all of the weight, so here we go eye cream!

While the verdict is still out on the eye cream I am definitely hooked on the Rapid Lash and Rapid Brow serums.  The Rapid Lash applies like a clear liquid eyeliner on your top lashes and the rapid brow is almost identical to a clear brow gel.  I waited a full month to post about it so I could report the difference, although after ten days my brows were looking much more like Cara Delevingne’s and less like the pencil thin look the woman at the threading place thought was in fashion.   My eyelashes seem fuller and a tid bit longer, and every fraction of an inch counts!  I actually noticed a big difference when I looked at these photos from my recent Black Lace for a Wedding post:

Post Rapid Lash and Rapid Brow

This routine is not difficult and I will definitely be sticking with it.  I love this quote Environ on their Facebook page:

Nature gives you the face you have at twenty; it is up to you to merit the face you have at fifty. Coco Chanel

Yay for skincare!

I found your blog by searching for the quote from Coco Chanel about “your face at 20 vs 50…) I’ve always been a fan of Mademoiselle Chanel because we share a first name…Coco is a nickname, she was really also Gabrielle.

In any case, I liked your post. Kudos on honing healthy habits, like working out to stay fit and carefully selecting products to keep your complexion in good shape. Have you considered a part-time opportunity representing one of the most proven lines of anti-aging products? I invite you to learn more about Nerium on my website: NourishFlourish.Nerium.com. It would be great to connect to discuss the details. #ReadySetGlow 🙂

    Cheers,

My dermatologist said to me once that the greatest secret ever told about skin care is SPF! Using a SPF cream can go a long way. Sun is the most dangerous element to anyone’s skin. After that comes the rest! Xo

I love what the doctor said about treating your skin like your teeth. Makes perfect sense. Thanks for the tips.
