Entertaining Tips for Super Bowl Sunday

01/31/14 | blogging

Hello lovely Sparkles and Shoes readers! Kelly is one of my good blogging friends, so of course when she asked me to guest post while she recovered from surgery, I was more than happy to help-a-blogger-out.

In a nutshell, my blog, Runway Chef, is all about serving up scrumptious style for everyday life in the form of food, fashion and fun. I recently took my love for food and fashion a step further by launching my series, Dress and Dine, which is all about scrumptious style for specific events aka styling you, styling your food, and styling your space for a scrumptiously stylish event. My first post in the series was all about what to cook and what to wear for a Super Bowl party, so to compliment that, I figured I’d share some entertaining tips to help your Super Bowl party be a touchdown (pun totally intended). Also, I promise not to say scrumptious anymore 🙂

Entertaining Tips

1. Make Sure Guests are Comfortable// Ensure you have a warm and inviting atmosphere. Play some lively tunes, light candles, provide comfy places to sit, and maybe even offer an ice-breaker game. For a Super Bowl party, I recommend playing classic rock songs (just until the game starts, of course), provide lots of blankets and cushions/pillows for seating. For an ice-breaker game, why not ask a trivia question about the Super Bowl, then draw a name at half-time and the winner will receive a small prize.

2. Keep the Food Coming and the Drinks Flowing// There is nothing worse than your guests going hungry or thirsty. I recommend having a few apps that will last the entire party (like chips and dip), then slowly bring out other small bites (like wings or meatballs) throughout the event, and then finish with a bigger dish towards the end. For the Super Bowl, I’m a huge fan of buffalo chicken dip and chips, a veggie tray or dip, and pretzels and cheese spread to start. Of course, no football game is complete without wings, however, I love serving buffalo chicken meatballs for a lighter option. A huge pot of chili is the perfect way to finish off a football party meal. For drinks, beer is, of course, an obvious choice, but I also like having a cocktail mix on hand, such as a gin bucket (gin, sprite, and lemons and limes), and make sure there are plenty of non-alcoholic options too, like soda, water and lemonade.

3. Get Your Guests In the Spirit// Decorations are an instant game changer (another pun that was totally intended) for your Super Bowl party, or really any party for that matter. Even if it’s something as simple as a few balloons and some festive table signs letting guests know what each dish is, those small details will make a huge difference in the success of your party.
