I t is getting very, very cold out and one of my favorite things to do is layer, because as my dear friend Camilla found out yesterday, because you never know how the temperature will change this time of year! One of my favorite ways to layer is also one of the hottest fall trends, stripes on stripes.I must be clear though, this not something new, revolutionary, or that the fashion industry has magically created for the first time. It has been around since before Robin Thicke’s VMA ensemble caught headlines, starting with models like Candice Swanepoel and Jessica Hart. The main reason I love this trend so much is does not actually involve you having to buy new pieces, you go into your closet and pair two things you would not have normally thought to mix.
A striped pattern is unassumingly functional, even on it’s own. When done right, vertical stripes help elongate the body and slim your figure. My biggest advice, borrowed from top stylists, is abandon any innate urge to match, and allow opposites to attract. Mixing stripes of different thicknesses and colors makes an outfit pop and make it more exciting.
