I am a New York City girl through and through. When presented with the opportunity to move two months ago I turned it down because this is my home and this is my city. Today, I bring you a very urban inspired post, the classic bag hold. There are two main ways that I hold bags and it depends on the straps, I either tote the bag in the crook of my arm or throw it over my shoulder and power walk through my city.
In January, Refinery 29 made a great chart of what your bag holding technique says about you. This chart was inspired by the body-language expert Patti Wood (whose opinions you have seen in every major magazine) and I agree with her conclusions, both of the descriptions about my style peg me perfectly!
Which one defines you? Do you fit more than one profile?
Do you think how you hold your bag describes you your own personality?

I often carry mine in the crook of my arm like you because of the bags I typically have. I love that it says ‘you’ve got a sense of superiority’ because I always feel so snooty when I carry my bag that way. Ha!
Sara says
Thumb to pit for sure though sometimes I can be
a schlepper.

As a girl who was born and raised in NYC, I am definitely a “Thumb to Pit” girl for the exact reasons mentioned. For me, bedtime stories may or may have not included purse snatchings followed by lectures from my mom on how to hold my bag so it wouldn’t happen to me. Awww city life!

I’m a mix of thumb to pit and crook-hook. Though I mostly sway to the later.

I hold bags differently depending on the type of bag it is. I definitely do the Thumb to Pit one…I don’t want anyone stealing my stuff!

I love this chart, I was just chatting about this with a friend of mine over the weekend.
The size of bag needed is definitely part of how it’s carried though. Unfortunately I have to carry a big purse so I’m a thumb-to-pit girl, if I didn’t have to carry such a big bag I’d probably have a different style.

I’m an “arm-crook” and “thumb to pit” holder. My problem with the arm-crook is that it gets so heavy after a while. Maybe there’s just too much in my bag…
