Tuesday Trend: Statement Nails

I absolutely love nail polish and have for quite some time.  At the age of eight I visited a family friend’s house and the teenage girl had a collection of 50+ nail polishes – I was in heaven  I had never seen so many bottles in one place and thought her idea of painting each of my nails a different color was the coolest thing I had ever heard of.  I even wanted to do my toes but I am pretty sure we ran out of time.  It is one of my most vivid childhood memories, being so cool that I could paint each of my nails a different color.

Fast forward more than a few years and now this trend of multi-colored nails has left the playroom and gone main stream. And while it may not be ten different colors encompassing every shade of the rainbow it is chic to have at least two different hues on your nails.  Some of these nail designs I see on Pinterest and across beauty blogs are amazing, but for me, not doable. I can barely “color within the lines” and to have four colors per nail or to apply newspaper print is very unique it is not something I can manage. My favorite way to wear statement nails is to pick a very bold color for eight of my nails and then paint the ring finger a different, complementary color on each hand.  In this photo I Instagramed last month my inspiration was St. Patrick’s Day and the majority of my nails (and the bottle) are  Essie’s Trophy Wife and and the statement ring finger nail is Essie Turquoise & Caicos.

I know this trend isn’t groundbreaking news but I’m quite infatuated with it right now. I think this helps with my indecisiveness over which color to choose when doing my nails and I really appreciate the beauty in the asymmetry. I wish I could say I came up with this trend but the truth is far from it, I am an admirer of some truly great manicures and emulate in my own way.     I get your love of nail polishes πŸ™‚ each time i get a new color, the hubby is like: another one? I absolutely love the color combo on top, actually feels really summery. While I love the idea of a statement nail, I just don’t always come around to doing it. Most of the time I’ve already done all my nails in the same colour and don’t want to do another one LOL

    I love that Essie color! My nails are usually bare though. I’m just too impatient for dry time and I haven’t had a chance to go have a gel manicure done in awhile. My nails are a mess! πŸ™

    This is my favorite way to do nails–with one accent nail! I usually do a bit of sparkle, but sometimes I opt for a totally different shade. Each is cute!
