Twice as Nice at Schonnbrunn Palace

The Schonnbrunn Palace is one of the pettiest palaces I have ever been to!  I visited during my first ever solo trip so when I was planning my family trip in November 2019 I knew we would have to visit this gorgeous spot, even if it is a bit outside of Vienna.    The Habsburgs used the Schönbrunn Palace as their main summer residence and with more than 1,400 rooms I am sure there was more than enough space for everyone!  

The name actually translates to “beautiful Spring” and while it dates back to the 15th century it was remodelled into a palace in the mid 1750’s by the famous empresses Maria Theresa.   The royals lived here seasonally for hundreds of years until the World Wars and by the middle of last century both the palace and the gardens were opened to public. 

According to many sources it is one of Europe’s most impressive palace and I would completely agree!  Take a look at my second visit to the Schonnbrunn Palace with photos of the grounds, a few from inside (which is not allowed), and quite a few from the gorgeous gardens!  If you go to visit I would make sure you take the time to explore the gardens, there are so many gorgeous things to see like the Neptune Fountain and I suggest you make your way up the slope to the Gloriette Schloss Schönbrunn – the view from the top is quite gorgeous! 

If you are considering going to visit I highly suggest you take the subway there.  From nearly anywhere in Vienna you can take the U-Bahn (subway) to the station is Schönbrunn via U4.  And then walk the 10 to 15 minutes to the gates of palace.   There are  tons of different tickets to the palace so I suggest you check out their website ahead of time and see which one might work best for you!
