There are people who absolutely love giving gifts, and I am one of them. And there are people on the other hand, like Mark, who find it more of a burden. I have learned over the course of our relationship for holidays if I make a ton list of thinks that I want that he will pick a few and get creative within this set list. And one of the items I put on my Christmas list was a weighted blanket. I had been reading about them for years and I knew I would be home for most of 2021 I was focused on things to make my life in our flat even better.
A quick Google search will start pulling up dozens of articles on the benefits and many say it is similar to deep pressure therapy. Some of the positives do not relate to me, such as autism but the ones about reducing stress, calming a restless body, and improving sleep? Yes please, sign me up!
While some poeple only use these blankets during the day they are safe to use all night and I have mine on my bed. And the best part? It only covers half the bed. This is for a number of reasons but mainly because the weight is proportional to one person weight and then is evenly distributed. And what do I mean by weight? While as the name implies you want a blanket that weighs 7 to 13% of your bodyweight. Doing a bit of math I opted for the 6.8kg blanket which equates to 15 pounds. And while those percentages don’t seem that large this range really is quite wide – covering anyone 46 to 97kg which is 101 to 213 lbs. Take a look at my blanket:
There are a number of companies that sell them but after research Mark bought mine from The Koala Blanket. One of the key reasons he chose this is because some blankets have beads in them which will fall to the bottom of the blanket when moved but this one – which has a soft quilted side and a silky smooth side – has the beads sewn in giving an even weight distribution. I have been sleeping with my blanket since the start of the year and as I wrote in the title, I am obsessed with my weighted blanket. (There is a guide for you to find what weight and size is the best for you.). I was raving about this to someone recently and they asked if I thought the blanket has directly reduced my stress and improved sleep. And the answer would be yes, maybe not entirely but it has been a great edition to my daily routine. And the website describes it perfectly “The Koala weighted blanket mimics the feeling of a hug, making you feel more calm, relaxed, and happy.”
Have you ever tried a weighted blanket?

I haven’t tried it before but have used electric blankets but don’t love them as sometimes I can feel the chord that runs through it.
Yours looks super soft and cozy and I can see by the look on your face how much you love it.

How did you decide which brand to go with, there seem to be so many!

It looks so cozy but does it get too hot?

I have heard great things about them but never tried one. It gets really cold in my apartment sometimes so this would help keep me warm on those cold nights.
