An Unlikely Duo: The North Face x Gucci Collection

We are less than two weeks into 2021 and already some of the things I have seen on the news – both here in the UK and back at home – have made me wonder if I am being punk’d.  Sorry for the 90’s MTV reference but that is the closest thing I can relate it to without getting political.  One headline that I took a second look at had nothing to do with violence or vaccines – the announcement of the North Face x Gucci  collaboration. 

I had seen an article a few weeks ago but at work earlier this week  in a group for people interested in fashion there is a chain going around about the Gucci x TNF collab and one coworker gave some great inside scoop.  There are only 10 popups between North America and Europe but my coworker was able to visit the San Fransisco boutique.   The majority of items from the collection were sold out except for a handful boots, socks, scarves, and backpacks.  For the items that were unavailable  There was an opportunity to put your name down on pre-order for some items like the t-shirts, sweaters, and beanies but for the items they are expecting a high demand for, like the puffer jackets, they are not even taking pre-orders for. 

I have so many questions but primarily around how we access it here in the UK when all stores are shut due to COVID (I actually tweeted the brands about this) and how the online lottery is going to work when it opens on January 22nd.  From what I have able to gather the price points are quite high – think Gucci pricing, not NorthFace – the TNF x Gucci Tee starts at $650, the sweatshirt is $1,200, the TNF x Gucci Zip-up Jacket $1,500, and the backpacks start from $1,790.  And the most popular item that seems to be sold out everywhere – the TNF x Gucci GG LOGO Puffer Jacket will set you back $2,980 that many of the ladies below.   But until then, tale a look at some of the press images and influencers who were lucky enough to get their hands on a few pieces:
