You have heard me mention Windsor Castle before in my list of the Best London Day Trips but it deserves to be more than 1 of 16 on a list. Well I finally crossed it off my London / England bucket list and it was worth the trip! Included in our tickets – which are actually valid for a year – were an audioguide and headset that was our personal tour around the castle buildings and properties. I loved learning the extensive history of the place, from the tower on the hill started by William the Conqueror (cue this Ed Sheeran song) to this castle being a royal palace for the last 900 years and 39 British monarchs who have called Windsor Castle home.
We decided to tour the famed St. George’s Chapel first which dates back to the 14th century and you may know as it was the location of Prince Harry and Megan Markle’s wedding. No photos were allowed inside and as I have mentioned in previous posts, that is one rule I do adhere to in holy spaces. You can see photos below of the grounds and the gorgeous exterior of Windsor Castle though:
My favorite part of our Windsor Castle tour was the Royal State Apartments and sadly, this was another space where photos were not allowed. however, I would be remiss not to show you some of the beauty so a few of the photos below are from the Royal Collection Trust (not me) and are labelled and sourced as such! Take a look Queen Elizabeth’s state apartments at Windsor castle:

As our tickets are valid for a full year I hope we have a chance to go back before next Summer. And just to clarify, the Queen does live at Buckingham Palace but as the monarch, you can imagine she has a few houses to choose from. This is often where she spends the weekend and it is the largest occupied castle in the world. #funfacts
Would you want to visit Windsor Castle?

I hope you get to go back too. Was just reading about the lockdowns and so crazy here and there.
Let’s hope this whole thing gets worked out sooner rather than later so that we all can travel again.

I was lucky enough to visit there shortly after the royal wedding. They had so many photos of the wedding blown up so you really could see the detail that was involved. They also had her wedding dress and the flower girls dresses and the foot men’s outfits. The attention to detail on these outfits blew my mind. They also made the castle look stunning. Any girl would love to get married there

That is a fun fact that it’s so far just occupied castle in the world. I also didn’t know she spent the weekend there but I guess it would be good to get out of the city every now and then.
Happy for you that there’s still a few places open to go visit during Covid.

So much history there. So glad that you got to visit it. One of my favorite places outside of London.
When my friends come to visit I always take them here.
