Happy Thanksgiving

11/28/19 | family, holiday

There is a trend going around the Internet about controversial opinions and here is mine:  Thanksgiving is better than Christmas. Now before you disagree, hear me out.  It is a day to get together and spend time with the people you love the most and be thankful for all that you have.  IT is not about gifts, the pressure of finding the perfect present, and is not limited to people of only one religion like Christmas is.

This year I am especially thankful for my family.  Growing up I always had the most supportive parents and the best little brother (even if he would never let me win at N64).  My extended family on both sides is all wonderful as well though I don’t get to see them as much as I did when I was a kid but when I do, it is like no time has passed at all.   I took this for granted and have now come to realize this is not how all families are – not even close.

4th of July in Cape Cod | Family Photo

(Family Photo from 4th of July a few years ago)

It was actually a conversation a few years ago when I was in New York and flying down here to Florida for Thanksgiving when a friend asked me in complete sincerity if I was going to need to be drunk for all of Thanksgiving to tolerate my family.  When I realized this was not a joke it really sparked something in me – that is some people reality.  Instead, I chose to fly back from London just to spend a few days with my family in Florida because these are my people, and I love them fiercely.

This Thanksgiving I am immensely thankful for my family – especially my Mom, Dad, and brother – and I will be spending the day with them in a bit of an untraditional way, stay tuned to see what we get up to!

Happy Thanksgiving!

As one gets older we realize how lucky we are to have a good family. When you’re younger you take it for granted that everybody has a good family. Lucky you can spend Thanksgiving with yours and enjoy your family time as much as you do.

I have no doubt you will have a great Thanksgiving spending time with your family and will enjoy seeing the untraditional way you enjoyed it. You have a great perspective on the value of a good close family that you love spending time with and how not everyone is so fortunate. Very happy for all of us in that situation and sure hope the rest have great friends that become their “family.”
