Travel Diaries: Hiking in Utah

09/15/16 | fitness, Hiking, The Americas, Travel, United States, Utah, West Coast

Path to the Timpanogos Cave National Monument
We made it to Thursday which means tomorrow is Friday and then it is the weekend.  For the first time in ages I have nothing planned and I could not be more thrilled about it but first lets power through the next 36 hours and if you have five minutes, I would love to share with you some more photos from Utah.  You may recall I was out West for Labor Day Weekend where I certainly packed a lot into three days and today, as promised more from our afternoon in Provo Canyon.

This was my third time visiting Utah as an adult and after crossing off many of the must-sees South of Salt Lake City including brunch at Sundance, touring a Mormon temple, and visiting  the amusement park in Park City, my friend suggested we hike to the Timpanogos Cave National Monument and take a tour.   To be honest originally she texted to see if I was interested in a 9 hour hike and I know the saying “When in Rome” but I let her know that would be a bit too much for me. Instead we opted for a three hour abridged version – an hour up the mountain, an hour tour of the caves, and an hour down.

Once we made it up to the top of climb and the entrance to the cave we only had to wait for a few minutes before the ranger from the U.S. National Park Service took our tickets and let us into the cave.  In the entry way of the cave we did intros and being from New York City I had definitely traveled the furthest to visit the site.  I won’t bore you with too many details about our cave visit – and you can read more here if you want – but we had a great time learning about cave bacon, stalactites, stalagmites, and cave popcorn plus commentary from an eight year old made it even more entertaining!

That looks like a lovely place to visit, what great scenery (even in the caves!)

I don;t think I could have done a 9 hour hike either, 3 hours sounds much more achievable!
