It is Thursday, yay for Thursday especially since I have tomorrow off . In honor of this wonderful revelation I have a great throwback for you, back to April and my trip to London! One day I booked off an hour for lunch with a coworker who I had not seen in the year since she left the new York office and in the elevator she asked where I wanted to go eat. Since it was only my third day in the Soho neighborhood of London I let her pick as I had no point of comparison and when he told me she had wanted to try the Taiwanese restaurant Bao and I readily obliged.
At noon we walked the six minutes from our office on Oxford Street to the small 22-seat restaurant and it was definitely worth the hype was worth the hype. When I later told people where we had lunch they asked if the line for a table was over or under and an hour but it seems we got quite lucky with only a five minute wait before we got a table. Once seated you are handed a menu and a checklist to tick off exactly what you want. Based on the recommendation of the waitress we started with delicious jumbo scallops and amazing wonton crips!
Next we decided to order with the Bao for the main part of our meal with each of us digging in to a mini confit pork banner and a fried chicken. I had never had boa before a steamed bun that that is filled with a variety of items and they were so good! Time Out food ended their review with, “Arrive hungry; leave happy.” and I could not agree more! If you are ready for the wait, or just lucky on a Wednesday like us, I highly suggest you check it out!
See that picture above – would you believe me if I told you it was nearly May? While London is usually colder than New York I was shocked that the week I was in England it actually snowed, brr! And I love how you can see the reflection of the line waiting to get in at Bao London!
Have you ever had Taiwanese Bao?
