One of my favorite things about getting together with my friend Samantha is that when we get together I know is going to be an adventure. On Sunday she suggested brunch in Soho and gave me a choice of two places. Having not heard of either I told her she could pick and we quickly agreed to meet at noon at Seamore’s. I coordinated a 10am workout class to make sure I was showered and ready for brunch down near the Spring Street stop at 12pm.
The weather on Sunday was exceptionally mild with temperatures in the high 50’s, a crazy anomaly for February in New York City. Having arrived a few minutes early I took a look around the place and waited for my friend to arrive. It only took a few seconds after our initial hug to confirm we were definitely going to take the hostess up on her offer and sit at the last remaining outside table.
Once seated I started with a much needed coffee and Samantha ordered a iced green tea as we enjoyed people watching sitting on the corner of Mulberry and Broome. Upon the waiters suggestion I had my first ever açaí Bowl containing a purée of blueberries and açaí topped with bananas, toasted almonds, granola and kiwi with chia seeds. It was delicious! My brunch mate ordered the poke, a delectable bowl of tuna and avocado, and said she enjoyed it very much. We sat at the table soaking up the sunshine, chatting, and occasionally giggling at the two bros behind us loudly drinking their bottle of rosé.
After brunch we took a long walk around Soho zig zagging up and down streets in Chinatown and Little Italy before making our way North, window shopping at a number of boutiques and going into half a dozen. On this wonderful neighborhood stroll we passed many amazing pieces of graffiti and street art and some of my favorites were Tristan Eatons’ four story City of Dreams, Liberty, and Audrey Hepburn murals.
This is a neighborhood I do not often visit and this afternoon reminded me how much I need to go more often. I am sure I will be down to Soho again soon and another trip to Seamore’s will definitely be a part of that plan!
