For the second time I successfully completed a dry January! What does that mean? From the last sip of champagne at midnight on New Year’s Even in Florida through today I have not had any alcohol. That includes even trying specialty cocktails on nights out, like last weeks night’s magnificent Indian dinner or my best friend’s birthday. To be honest – it was not as hard as I thought it would be and the most difficult part was not will power, but two friend’s who were unsupportive or told me I was a spoil sport. See that bottle? It has been sitting on my counter since before Christmas – I think it is finally ready to go in the fridge!
I had an idea to continue this into dry February but I am going on vacation next weekend and I will be definitely enjoying a few glasses of wine in Florida, so that will not work. Not only did I wake up every morning with a clear head but my workouts had a renewed vigor and I had a great month in terms of my fitness goals. I actually got home from the grocery store one day mid-month and while unpacking my bags took a look at what I had purchased marveling at how different it was than what it would have purchased a year ago. I will do an updated post on what I have been eating but it has been pretty on point and I am coming to learn that all calories are not created equal.
That shot was from a few weeks ago and the most recent trip looked quite similar and while these tripes are expensive, they are paying off. Dry January is now over but I have not been dying for a drink largely in part to the great successes on the scale. I thought about cracking open a bottle of wine last night but drinking by myself is not something I do so I will wait until a friends 30th birthday this weekend for a long awaited glass of vino.
Not drinking plus a renewed workout schedule allowed me to not only succeed in my two DietBet games but crush them – I was more than 2 pounds less where I needed to be and getting the congratulatory emails over the weekend felt great. I knew this was going to be achievable so I doubled down and won $40.68 and $50.24 respectively. If you need a reminder, I wrote a post about Getting Paid to Loose Weight with Dietbet where you wager on your ability to loose 4% of your bodyweight in 4 weeks, and for the second time around I was successful in this quest, thanks Dry January!
It has been a great dry January but I am excited to go out drinking with friends and coworkers again and to have a few cocktails with my grandmother next weekend for her birthday! And because I want you to celebrate this mini victory with me, make sure to enter to win a bottle of Miss Dior perfume!
Have you ever tried giving up drinking?

Oh man, that’s not cool that you have some friends who gave you a hard time about your dry January! That’s totally unfair of them! If I had friends like that I would seriously consider erasing their names off of my friend’s list! Anyway, congratulations and thank you for being so inspiring! I need to get my butt off the couch and get to the gym since over the holidays I let my fitness and eating well slip a little… womp womp π

Congrats on a dry month! It’s amazing how many calories we can consume in liquids of all kinds (pops, coffees, juices, etc) without even thinking about it. Sounds like you have had such a healthy month.
