Hello. It’s Me. Hello, can you hear me? I’m in California Florida dreaming …. Well, maybe not dreaming but definitely soaking up the sunshine and listening to Adele’s new album on repeat.
Usually at this time of year the temperature is in the low 70’s in Naples, Florida but just like the rest of the country we have been experiencing a huge heat wave. To beat the nearly 90 degree temperatures I have been enjoying frequent dips in the pool/ocean, lots of ice water, and a great deal of oysters.
Oysters are one of my favorite foods but due to the price and availability in New York City I do not have them as often as I would like. Now when I am in Florida, on the other hand, I will eat them every day if I can. You will have seen in Monday’s post that I had a dozen on Christmas Eve, on Twitter Saturday night that I had six before my key lime pie, or last night, via Snapchat, I had a full dozen.
One thing that come up every time I have more than four oysters – someone I am with will comment that they are bad for you. I think this is a common misconception but thankfully a very, very quick search pulls up the nutritional information that has everyone sush:
With six oysters coming in under 50 calories and packing five grams of protein they are likely one of the best appetizers you can have. People enjoy them all different ways – with cocktail sauce, horseradish, or plain – but I prefer mine with a fresh squeeze lemon juice.
Do you like oysters?
