Lord of the Dance on Broadway

12/04/15 | New York City, Theater

On Saturday night I got all dressed up and headed downtown to meet my brother for dinner and a Broadway show. Usually when my parents visit the city the four of us get together and see a musical but this time it was a bit different.  A few weeks before my mom had sent Kevin and I an email that the world renowned Michael Flatley was going to be performing for the first time ever on Broadway.   I am not sure how it started but we grew up with Riverdance and my parents took us to a show 15 years ago so he has been a household name since then.

When my mom saw in the paper that Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games was set to play a limited engagement November 7 through January 3, 2016 on Broadway she suggested my brother and I go as early Christmas presents and we jumped at the chance. The show was in London earlier this year but New York City is lucky to have it for two months.

After taking a few photos outside on 42nd Street (thank you Kevin) we headed inside to the beautiful playhouse. I have been to many shows on Broadway but the majority haven been musicals and this was my first time in the Lyric Theater.

Lord Of The Dance: Dangerous Games was directed and choreographed by Flatley so I knew we were in for an amazing two hour performance of Irish Dance and singing with his prote?ge?s Morgan Comer, James Keegan and Cathal Keaney.  I read up on the show beforehand and they advertised that this was going to be Riverdance 2.0 with holographic-effect projections in addition to new costumes, choreography and music.

Sitting in the 20th row of the orchestra we had the ideal seats for the show and the main dancer was. so. good.  Honestly, he was absolutely incredible. I joked with my brother after the show he was a bit cocky when he first came on stage and then 45-seconds into it I realized, rightly so.  He is the actual Lord of the Dance and you can see him in red in the shot below, taken just before the curtain call at intermission.

My brother is such a great sport and at intermission he took more photos of me, this time on the balcony in the lobby. After a few shots made our way back to the seats for the second half knowing that Michael Flatley himself would be in the finale!

It was an amazing show and
thanks for the early Christmas present Mom and Dad!
