8 Trends You Will Never See Me Wearing

05/08/14 | Fashion and Style

As everyone knows fashion is subjective.  Every Red Carpet event gets its raves and reviews and many times I agree to disagree with my readers – like Lupita or Emma’s gowns from the Met Gala on Monday night.   Once you get off the runway there are many trends that models and celebs wear that the girl next to me on the subway could be rocking and whether or not it looks good there are eight trends that you will never catch me in.

(1)  Overalls.  Some people do do them well.  Like Mary from Happily Grey.  Still, you will never see me in overalls. {Side note: I was talking about this post in the office yesterday at work and one of my coworkers asked what was on the list.  When I said overalls one girl yelled over the cubes, “hey, I just bought a pair of those!”.  Again, these are not fashion trends I do not like, just fads I will not be partaking in!)

(2) Heels without Heels. I have enough trouble with platforms pumps that have that slight dip on the toe…  These would leave me flat on my bum.  Or face.  Or hands and knees.  You get the picture. Plus your toes are arches must be in excruciating pain.  No bueno.

(3)  Wedge Sneakers. These first hit the scene in the summer of 2012 and in the last two years I have seen more celebrities, off -duty models, and it girls rocking them than I can count. As one review said they are, “the perfect combination of casual and chic, they allow the comfort of sneakers with the elevation of a hidden wedge.”  Um, okay. Sure. But they are sneakers you can not work out in – to me, counter intuitive.

(4) Flower Crowns.  I think they are very pretty when done right but they are just not me.  The last time I wore one was on my first communion in second grade as it was part of my veil. I just do not think at this age anyone would take me seriously but if you can, rock it!

(5)  Crop Tops.  Unless you are super super thin or a teenager or a super thin teenager I am just not sure this a good luck.  I know I have tried on half a dozen since they became the “it” thing and have decided they are just not for me.  I will stick to peplum and fit and flare, thank you.

(6) Heels with Socks.  This is actually an extension of my pet peeve from my senior yearbook – socks with sandals.  Nope. If you need to wear something with your heels please put on a pair of tights.  If you are feet are still cold – boots.

(7) The Patterned Power Suits. This is one trend I do not necessarily dislike, I think Emma, Guliana, Karolina, and Solange have the attitude and red carpet presence to rock these looks but I am 100% confident that I would look like a fool.

Fashion Trend - Patterned Power Suit - Emma Robets - giuliana rancic - karolina kurkova - SOLANGE KNOWLES
(8)  Distressed / Ripped Jeans.  Nope, not for me.  This actually stems from the days where I thought Abercrombie and Fitch was the be-all and end-all.  I was upset when my mom told me she would not spend “good money” on a pair of jeans that looked like they were already worn and ready for the trash aka distressed.  Now as an adult I completely understand and I think many people have taken this much too far, ala Brandy.
If you are a big fan of any of these trends – I applaud you, they are just not for me.

I can kind of get on board with the wedge sneakers, but everything else is a huge no-no for me. How do the heelless heels even work?! A mystery of physics.

Yes to all of these! I feel exactly the same, I could never and would never. Particularly overalls and heels without heels… just, why?

I love most of these trends except the heel-less heel…that one is over-the-top for me!

I had kept the same pair of overalls for ages! and i mean ages! so i can wear them when i get pregnant…the latter has not happened yet. So those overalls already got the boot!!!
The whole sneaker wedge situation…you must google Vixen Workout…this is the only reason as to why I would by these shoes. heehe

Agree with everyone of these (although I do wear distressed jeans with small holes but it’s mainly because they are easier to find). Flower crowns are cute on some people but I’ll never wear them!

I think I last wore a flower crown for my communion too, haha! If I can find a non-frumpy, maybe black, overall I will buy. Otherwise, I’ll pass on the saggy butt it gives you 😉

BTW, I totally wish I could rock crop tops but I just don’t have the bod for it!

ah, YES! to all of these.

The only one that I kind of like is a real flower crown. I HATE flower crowns that are made of anything other than real flowers (seriously, what is the point)

I agree on ALL of these!! I don’t understand the overalls trend, like are we 5 again?!

Personally I would never wear the high-waisted shorts that girls wear these days but that’s only because my body could not pull that off hahah.

I loved my overalls back in the day. I wore them ALL THE TIME. However, at age 35, I will not be wearing them in the present.

Heels without heels are so ugly.

Actually I would never try any of these trends either except for the distressed jeans. But only minor distress.. not show your whole legs look like Brandy there. hahaha..

I love your honesty here! I agree with some of these and disagree with others. but many items need the right body type & the right situation. I actually just bought a flower crown but only plan on wearing it a music festival haha. (I’m a hippie poser).

I agree with every single one of these! I think distressed jeans are ok as long as they don’t look like the ones you posted. Those aren’t distressed – they’re missing!

Heels without heels? I have never seen that before in my life. I’m having a hard enough time dealing with heels with heels so no thanks!! I like a nice rip or two (not 10) in skinny jeans and overalls are a no no for me too. The last time I wore them was 8th grade and I looked like a farmer but everyone said it was cute.

I completely agree with all of these (but less so on the distressed jeans, as long as they don’t look like the ones you pictured)! And THANK YOU for including flower crowns. I hate this trend and I think only a few select people can pull it off without looking absolutely ridiciulous.

Haha I love this post!!! While I do enjoy some lightly distressed jeans, everything else isn’t for me either. Especially the heels without heels…. I just can’t even comprehend that one. Horrible.

I swore I wouldn’t wear overalls again (I wore them back in the day in 6th grade) and I hate to admit it, but they are kinda growing on me. Not sure if I’ll actually buy a pair though!

Women at my office/in my building are always wearing socks with heels and looking amazing. Clearly, they’re much more stylish than I, because I could never pull it off!

This is great! I love how style can be different for all of us, and that something outrageous for one is normal for another, and so on. I am DYING to try overalls this year, and have a crop top, floral crown and wedge sneakers;) What wouldn’t I try? Purple hair, mesh or see through anything, or knock off designer bags.
