Blow Outs and Iconic Hair Styles

04/07/14 | celebrity, Fashion and Style

After a whirlwind weekend in Columbus for my cousin’s bachelorette party I feel like I have SO much to catch up on.  I never realize how productive my weekends are – grocery shopping, laundry, blog posts, ect – until a weekend away. While sometimes it is a bit overwhelming these are really first world problems. Sure, it is Monday and sure my to-do list is now two pages but life is good. Really good.

As you may have seen on Instagram on Saturday the entire group of girls went to get blowouts and I had a great experience.  I am not sure how I have made it two years in New York City and have not indulged in a blow out but it was a great experience!

Leaving the salon my hair had never looked so good and I was in love.  I did not go for one of the pre-set options on the menu, more on that tomorrow, instead I asked my stylist to go ahead and do whatever she thought would be the best. I told her I wanted some curls and some body and that I would leave the rest up to her.  I am not event sure how to describe what it looked like but I loved it.  That got me thinking of this article and women who have beautiful hair all the time.  Here are iconic styles, one from each of the last seven decades:

1950’s MARILYN MONROE’S CURLY WAVES
1960’s CHER’S ULTRA-STRAIGHT HAIR
1970’s FARRAH FAWCETT’S FLICKS
1980’s KYLIE MINOGUE PERM

1990’s  JENNIFER ANISTON’S “THE RACHEL”

2000’s  HALLE BERRY’S PIXIE

2010’s  BEYONCE’S WET WAVES

Starting wit Marilyn people either love her or they hate her. Personally, I am in the love category and wrote a post about her back in my second month of blogging.  More than fifty years ago she was a show stopper and people are still talking about her,  dressing up like her for halloween, and trying to copy her curls. Then you go to Cher who had hair that could not have been straighter if she tried, Farrah Fawcett’s “Charlie’s Angels”  curls which are my favorite, and then Kylie’s perm. The one hair style on the list below that I do not live is “The Rachel” but apparently it was all the rage.

Then the pixie, a style that is all the rage right now, and which I wrote a post about it back in November, but the original main stream pixie was Halle Berry in her 2001 Oscar wining role Monter’s Ball. To pick a hairstyle to define the last decade was almost impossible, mainly because just about everything has been tried right now but I absolutely loved Beyonce’s wet waves earlier this year at the Grammy’s.

If you get your hair done, what look do you go for?

I’m totally about the Cher look. I’ve always worn my hair long and straight with no body (when I don’t curl it). My dad makes fun of me all the time and calls me a hippie haha!
