Five Places I Would Rather Be

The forecast today calls for snow in New York City with a high 22°F. Really?  I thought we had been there and done that with the polar vortex.  I guess not.  Instead of thinking about the cold, I have picked five places in the world I would rather be that in the sub-freezing, almost zero with the wind chill that is this January.  All five of these spots are on my travel bucket list and also my Pinterest board of Places I Want to Go.  Picking just a few was hard but I had one criteria – today’s temperature must be over eighty degrees in each location.


Con Dao, Vietnam
A large portion of this island, 110 miles off Vietnam’s southeast coast, is dedicated as a national and marine park, spanning mangrove forests, coral reefs, and sea grasslands. The island is a breeding ground for sea turtles, home to dolphins, and the high today is 84°F with a zero percent chance of rain. 
Jake Seaplane in Micronesia
One of my favorite things to see when scuba-diving are ship wrecks – I have only dove with three but they are incredibly fascinating.  I would love to be able to dive and go see the Second World War Japanese ‘Jake’ Seaplane that its atop a reef in only 60 feet of water off the coast of Palau, Micronesia. Oh, and the weather today is a high of 86° F  and the water temperature is in the range of 81 to 84°F – perfection!
Wine Vineyards in South Africa
Stellenbosch, South Africa is somewhere I have had the opportunity to visit before but since I was 17 I was not allowed to try any of the wines. Seeing as it is supposed to be 89° F today I think it would be a lovely time to go back. Stellenbosch has been the center of the South African wine industry since 1690 and I would desperately love to try some of these tried and tested grapes! 
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 
It has been on my bucket list for I do not know how long to travel to Rio to see the Cristo Redentor, Christ the Redeemer, statue high atop this South American city and soak up the sun on many of the famous Brazilian beaches, particularly Prainha Beach.  With a temperature today in the mid-80’s it is another place I would much rather be than NYC! 
Hilton in Bora Bora 
Visiting this hotel or one like it has to be on just about every travel or dream vacation Pinterest board there is.  If you need more convincing then the picture above this hotel is located on a half mile of sandy beach, sports lagoon views, offers sunset with cocktails from a Polynesian-style beach bar, and you arrive at the resort via a scenic flight private hotel boat.  Oh, and the weather today is a high of  86° F.

    The Hilton in Bora Bora is high on my list. My husband is a frequent traveler for work and usually stays at the Hilton brand hotels. I’ve had my eye on the resort in Bora Bora for some time now. I’ll have to save that trip for January when I know I’ll appreciate it the most!
