Decorating Your Desk

The average person spends over six hours a day sitting at their desks.  That is more time than people spend awake in their bedroom or vegging out in their living room.  If you spend so much time at your desk then shouldn’t it be pretty? In one of my July posts I wrote about my dream home office with some Pinterest inspiration but decorating your space in an semi-open floor plan office is much harder.

How do you make your workspace your own when  you can not paint the walls, you can not install a chandelier for your lighting, and you can not nail up great artwork. The answer?  You have to get creative.  I am now spend a majority of my day in a little space I can cal my I own and this is how I would decorate my work desk to show my personality but still be professional:

Ideas to Decorating Your Desk or Cubicle

ONE.  Somedays I wish I did not go through as paper as I do but c’est la vie.  Since I have piles of papers all over my desk I think either this Lucite Hashtag or this Ampersand symbols paper weight from C. Wonder would be great decorative pieces to adorn the tops of my piles and keep the papers in place when the very strong heating system turns on!

TWO. In corporate America business cards are like candy and you pass them out to any and everyone. (With some discretion of course but I go through what I deem a large amount). Mine are currently stowed away in a top drawer in the box they came in from the printer but a cute little stand like this Reed and Barton Cardholder would be a great way to display them on my desk and allow easier access.

THREE. I can not speak to every office but there is a fine line between too many personal items and not enough.  I think pictures are very important but one should have a reasonable number and not put them in a very decorative frame as to let the occupants shine, therefore I love this black double-vertical picture frame and plan on getting one soon!

FOUR.  Before you stand up from your desk to go to a meeting, speak to your boss, or even go outside for lunch it is always good to have a quick peak in a mirror, like this Textured Relief Silver Wall Mirror, to make sure you do not have food in your teeth and your hair still looks good.  Therefore, a cute mirror is on my list too! 
FIVE.  It is 2013 and I am still in awe of how much cash I use and how much change that results. Instead of sticking all of my loose coins in the cubby next to the paperclips, how cute is this  C. Wonder Piggy Bank to store all of your spare in change? 

SIX.  I absolutely love Instagram so it is only fitting that I love Stickygram  – a company that prints out your favorite Instagram photos and prints them on magnets for you. I bought my first set back in January and I currently have a few of my stickies by my desk right now. I am eager to order another batch though, they are so fun!

SEVEN.  This may just be me but I get at least two cups of coffee a day from the wonderful station in our kitchen but there are only disposable cups.  I have been on the lookout for a mug so I can stop wasting so many trees and I love this very positive and pretty Kate Spade Seize the Day coffee cup!

    I absolutely love the piggy bank! I keep all my change in a coin purse, but I’d still love to have that for the decorative effect. Plus it might keep me from sassily responding “when pigs fly” to half of everything. Actually, it probably wouldn’t. But it could try… :p These are all really awesome pieces!

    I love the little piggy bank! I never thought to keep one at my work desk, but I used to have change all in my desk drawers! Now I work from a home office but it’s still cute!

    The Kate Spade mug is too cute! I have ZERO decorations at my desk…I’m kinda scared some of those things would happen to “walk” off my desk.

    Since I recently started working from home I’m still working on the decorate my space thing. I’ve added little touches here and there like a few pictures and a cute mug with pens in it.

    I really love the paperweights above, I need a paperweight for my desk.

    I really like all of these things. My desk is decorated. Although it looks more appropriate for a desk at TRU headquarters. Apropos because that’s where most of it came from πŸ™‚
