All of these back to school posts and people rushing fall need to slow down, summer is still here and the average temperature in September is 75 degrees here in New York City! With this is mind before I start posting about leather leggings and riding boots today I bring you color me cool – how to wear prints.
This season’s catwalks were a burst of color, from head-to-toe hot hues and Asian-influenced prints to monochrome madness and clashing patterns. If you’re planning on standing out this season, you’ll have no problem!
The Trend. This season, a number of high-fashion designers have taken inspiration from Asian and Oriental styles and both geisha-like shoes and Japanese silhouettes sashayed down the runways. Go for trendy embellished dresses online or alternatively, opt for a simple shift and add elaborate accessories.
Red. One of the most predominant colors for 2013 is red – a perfect summer hue. Not only is red the color of passion, it’s also a great way to spice up a tired wardrobe. If you’re feeling adventurous, opt for a red dress, red shoes and even a bold red handbag. Otherwise, add a simple splash of color with the addition of just one red piece.
Accessorize. Statement chunky jewels in hot colors are ideal for the warmer months and will add an instant pop of color to a simple outfit. Think sculptural stilettos, colossal earrings and embellished collars. Fashionistas that wish to balance the brightness can do so by adding a neutral-colored pair of trousers or a simple jacket to the ensemble.
Frills. This season’s runways were rampant with ruffles, some of which resembled flamenco-styles. However, they’re no longer solely limited to skirting! Think vibrant collars and sleeves with daring cut-out sections.
Mixed. Our summer wardrobes have become a lot more adventurous with many choosing to combine animal prints, stripes and floral styles, without clashing. When wearing flower prints, make sure each hue complements the other. For the ultimate picnic vibe, team a light green gingham-patterned top with green floral trousers in a slightly darker hue.
Go Kitsch. The ‘50s were popular last season and seem to be showcasing again this year. A simple striped, candy colored top boasts a flirtatious summer style. For best results, wear with a pencil skirt of a similar design.
A Modern Masterpiece. Another way to work the new prints is to opt for monochrome mixed patterns. Such a style will add a little graphic kick to a variety of items such as playsuits, crop tops, footwear and skirts. For a softer style, wear items with lighter hues that resemble playful watercolor sketches.
What are your favorite summer 2013 trends?

I love the peplum and the cut-outs on the dresses you focused on. Red is my favorite color next to black. Living in Florida, summer will continue on ’til at least mid October. Thank you for not pushing the seasons.
It was great to see you over at my blog.

Excellent styling ideas! Love the 3rd dress, it looks exactly like an Elie Saab gown. I really need to incorporate more red into my wardrobe.

I don’t really have too much red in my wardrobe though! But I think it’s definitely going to be a whole lot fun playing with all these trends xx

I do not own very much red and I’m not really sure why. I have that it is such a bold, statement color. Plus it pops so well in pictures.
