That Time I Wore a Wedding Dress

06/24/13 | Connecticut, Real Life

Yes, you read that correctly, the one time I wore a wedding dress.  Yes, it was a wedding dress. No, it was not my wedding.  No, it was not even A wedding. This was my high school graduation where all 54 girls receiving diplomas paraded infront of a New Englad mansion in wedding dresses.  The ceremony did include a mass, but the similarities with a traditional wedding end there. Many of the young ladies walking with me not only did not have a boyfriend but they attended prom by themselves, as they did not even KNOW a boy! In some ways can consider their to be a whole bunch of brides and no grooms.

To many people this may seem strange but after attending the school for eight years I could not wait until I got to be the girls walking out the front doors of the school in a long white dress.  As the high school I attended was from girls ages pre-k through 12 it is a great tradition that all of the graduating seniors receive a beautiful bouquet of red roses from a second grader on your way into the ceremony. The parade out of the front of the school was truly a bridal fashion show with only two girls having a duplicate dress. Take a look at the photos from that day:

Congratulations to my entire graduating class!  I can not believe it has been years since I have seen some of you and I hope everyone is doing well!
Have you ever been to a wedding style graduation?

Hahaha nope, never even heard of such a thing but I kind of love the idea for graduation. I celebrated mine in boring school uniform and sadly in a boring music hall compared to this McMansion stunner.

    So envious!

Hey Kelly! I’m Ginny a new follower! What a cool post. I immediately clicked it to check it out because I’m getting married in 9 months. How sweet. Did you get it from an actual bridal salon? If so, I’m sure the process was super fun.

I already picked out my dress and it was an AWESOME experience!! 🙂

I have never heard of girls wearing long white dresses to a graduation. What a special tradition!

my high school had all the girls wearing the exact same white dress (we were given a pattern) and we could choose between the shiny or matte side of the fabric. lol. the boys had to wear white tuxedos. its weird but ended up being kind of fun despite all of our complaining.

That’s crazy. I can’t imagine having a graduation ceremony like that. My only issue with mine was that it was alphabetical order and I was THE last person in our class – Zosh. I did get a standing ovation though – it was finally over 😉

  32. Jessica says

    June 24, 2013 at 9:23 am

I did this too! Except we all had to wear the same exact dress and white elbow length gloves. Luckily the dress wasn’t awful but it was totally white, floor length and of course “modest”…Takes me back to the good old days of my youth…
