It took me a year of living in London to finally make it out to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. It had been on my list but knowing it was more than an hour subway ride each way, I decided to hold off but when I saw an add for Chihuly: Reflections on Nature, I made it a priority! You may recall that two years ago I visited the Chihuly Glass Museum in Seattle and when I saw that Chihuly’s works were being exhibited in my new home town, we planned a trip! Chihuly, a Washington State based artist, is known as the world’s most celebrated contemporary glass artists and his work is absolutely stunning set among the lush greenery at Kew!
Even though it was not included on the map they hand about the pieces we Googled them as we walked around – some of the sculptures spanned Dale Chihuly’s 50 year career and some were made specifically for this exhibition! In total there are 32 artworks Chihuly Glass at Kew Gardens in 13 locations . Many of the pieces are located in the Temperate House, a massive showhouse built more than 160 years ago for the for the largest plants in Kew Royal Botanic Gardens. There are tons of sculptures hanging from the wrought iron roof
This exhibition opened on April 13th and will be open until the 27th of October so if you have the chance, make sure you go see it. If you are one of my many readers from abroad we are not going to have the chance to make it to see the Chihuly Glass at Kew Gardens, you can head to their website and take the online tour!
For the rest of Kew Gardens – including the Tree Top Walkway, the palace, and the gorgeous blooms stay tuned for the second post!
