Hello from the Equator! And I mean that quite literally – twice on Monday we crossed the actual Equator line on a boat visiting different points of Isabela Island, the largest island of the Galápagos. After more than a day and a half of crazy travel my family finally arrived to the Galápagos Islands on Saturday afternoon an archipelago (new vocab word, it means a group or chain of islands) more than 600 miles west of mainland Ecuador.
Since then we have gone on multiple nature hikes – some to see indigenous animals and others to appreciate the geology – as well as three snorkeling / free diving trips where we had the incredible opportunity to swim with sea turtles, penguins, baby sea lions, marine iguanas sharks, and more! Perhaps the coolest thing we have done so far, though, was a zodiac ride (a boat ride on a big rubber boat that fits 12 people) around one of the main islands where we spotted orcas and spent an hour watching multiple killer whales (yes, I know that’s not actually what they are called) chase sea lions.
It has been an absolutely spectacular trip thus far where I have taken more than 2,700 photos! With the very slow upload speed here at sea today I will only be sharing a few of them, some of which you may have seen on social media but I wanted to let you all know I am a live and that there are many, many more posts coming to you about this stunning island paradise when I am back! Until then, a few Galapagos postcards:
^ The famous blue footed boobys!
As always, follow along on Instagram and Snapchat for more real time updates! And since I still have a few more days here i would love to know which of these Galapagos postcards is your favorite so I can be sure to post more like them!
