New Years Eve’s in Times Square

01/02/14 | New York City

Tuesday night I did something most New Yorkers vow never to do – I went near Times Square on New Year’s Eve.  Not only did I go near it, I stood in Times Square with millions of other people and watched the famous 12-foot-wide ball drop.  There were more than a million people standing in pens to watch this crystal-orb and yesterday I was reading articles about people waiting over 13 hours in the cold!

The temperature was below freezing on Tuesday night and in the teens with the windchill but I was only outside in Times Square for ten minutes.  Yes, that is right – TEN minutes thanks to my coworkers.   My best friend Esme came to visit from England I really tried my best to wow her.

We spent the day sight seeing around midtown and then headed to my apartment to get ready for the big night.  I was utterly obsessed with my Slate & Willow Aileen Dress from Rent the Runway (here) that I couldn’t wait to leave the house.  Esme and I had a reservations at the famous Caroline’s Comedy Club in Times Square and tickets to the 10pm show.

Having a special pass to the show got us through half a dozen security check points to get into the heart of Times Square.  Dinner was good, the show was great, and having a roped off section of the sidewalk to see the ball drop live was unreal!  Take a look:

And then, out of one million people in the crowd, I run into someone I know.
Again, ridiculous.  Rob and I went to college together and I was so excited to see him!
I spent New Years Eve for the first time despite being a New Yorker.
It was magical, but I don’t think I need to do it again.
Take a watch:

Oh, and Es and I got photobombed by a NYC cop.
Happy New Year!

You looked fierce in that dress!! I did the whole going to a bar off Time Square one year and the security check points were insane but totally necessary with that crowd. We ended up taking one of those pedicabs through Time Square at 2am and we were the only “car” on the street. Totally romantic until we got to Penn Station and the guy charged 70 bucks for a 10 block ride.
