Pearl Studs

10/05/13 | jewelry

You are never fully dressed without…. PEARLS! Well, as the expression goes, a smile, but I think you are never fully dressed without pearls. I do not mean to say you must have the matching bracelet and earrings at all times but they are few things classier and more classic that a simple pair of pearl studs.

In high school two acquaintances were talking and when one girl attempted to describe me she mentioned where I attended high school, the town I lived in, and my physical appearance.  When the second girl did not know who I was the first mentioned that I always wear pearl studs and suddenly the second girl knew who I was.  Too funny. And I guess there are many worse things to be known for!

I actually collected ten photos of me wearing pull earrings from various photos around Facebook and made a college.  But you know what?  When you are wearing small pearl studs you have to zoom a photo a TON to even really see them and the collage ended up looking like nine really close photos of me and the earrings were still not apparent so instead I will share a pearl of wisdom with you my grandmother taught me years ago:
To tell if a pearl is real lightly rub it against the biting edge of your upper front teeth. Real pearls feel slightly gritty, while most fake pearls feel smooth. It may seem weird but it really does work! However, I would refrain from doing it in public – I once saw a lady asked to leave a vintage store because she was “testing” the pears with her teeth!
Did you know this trick?

That is a good trick! I can tell just by holding them and comparing weight, blemishes, and color, but that’s probably because I worked at a jeweler once.

Ah, my favorite! I recently lost one of my pearl studs – so, so sad! I need to replace them because I miss that little bit of glamour in my daily life!

And cool, I never knew how to tell if they were fake or not!
