The Messy Project featuring Harem Pants

03/20/13 | blogging

Kelly Donlin Sparkles and Shoes

Have you heard about The Messy Project? If not, read about it now and you’re welcome. It’s one of the most genius ideas I’ve seen around the blogosphere. Kelly, who I featured in a post a while ago about other bloggers with my same name, created this amazing monthly project and here is what she had to say about it, “I know from my personal styling experience that a lot of people have trouble styling certain items. They may look at a top & instantly think, ‘I can’t wear that…what would I do with that?’ So I wanted to find a fun way to interact with other bloggers incorporating fashion help. Something to convey who we are. To show our style. To put our creative minds to work. To challenge us to step outside of the box. To express our inner fashionista. To show people the different ways to style an item depending on your body type & you. So #TheMessyProject was born.”

Basically THE DEAL:  1 Item, 5 Girls, 5 Different Looks creating 1 Major Blog Post Day.

When I was invited to be part of this I knew that Kelly would definitely pick something outside of my standard, neutral palette.  From another description of the project that reads, “I pick out the item please know you may get something that you normally would never ever wear. But that’s the point of The Messy Project – to challenge yourself. To be creative & step outside of the norm.”  UM, YES. When I opened the adorable package to find HIGH WAISTED HAREM PANTS I started hysterically laughing, yes, Kelly, you got me, something I definitely would not pick out – um, no to the print, no to the cut, no to the material, just no, no to the elasticized banded waist, no to the pleated waist.  These are definitely the type of thing I would stay away from like the PLAGUE.   But styling them was actually a ton of fun – here is what I did with them…

(Having some issues trying to focus the camera on this freezing day!)

And if you read the text above you know I was not the only one who got a pair of the high-waisted harem pants featuring a dash print and matching sash – check out how I these four other lovely ladies styled these crazy bottoms:

Niki from The Glossy Blonde
Erin from Cali-Land Chic
Samantha from  The Style House
and, of course, Kelly from Messy Dirty Hair

I hope you liked their looks and mine – tell me what you think and I promise not to be too shocked!

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed the version of #TheMessyProject!

I’d avoid these like the plague too! I think you did a fabulous job styling them though. The bold print goes great with the shirt and heels. They don’t even look harem in your photos so that’s a plus, no?

What a cool idea for a post and I agree I would never have chosen the pant either. But that is what it is all about right? And you styled them perfectly…to the point where I actually want to go get a pair. Well done!

Wow! I love how your look turned out! I definitely think wearing heels helped the look of the pants. The pop of color looks great too.
