Last night’s Golden Globes were the highlight at the end of a weekend where I was posted up on the couch with a box of tissues. I am happy to say that the Sunday’s red carpet did not disappoint. This is my fourth year covering the show – you can see my best dressed picks from the 2013 Golden Globes, 2014 Golden Globes, and last year’s 2015 Golden Globes – and I had fun picking out my favorite dresses along with ones that missed the mark.
As I was so under the weather that for the first time I watched the entire awards from the first pre-show to the last trophy without interruption. I loved the stars being interviewed on the red carpet who admitted they had already been drinking – it was 3:30 pm local time – and with some of Ricky Gervais’ quips, they needed it. My 2016 Golden Globes best dressed list is:
Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Zuhair Murad Couture
Jaimie Alexander in Genny
Taraji P. Henson in Stella McCartney
(she won Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama #teamcookie)
Zendaya in Marchesa
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Atelier Versace
(who confirmed her engagement last night!)
Jennifer Lopez in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture
Emmy Rossum in Armani Privé
Lady Gaga in Versace
(who won Best Actress in a Limited-Series or TV Movie)
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior
(she won Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy)
In the past my best dressed list has only included the ladies but I loved Eddie Redmayne’s tux jacket so much (and isn’t he just the sweetest?) that he gets his very own category. Oh, and he and his wife actually confirmed to Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet that they are expecting their first child! Congrats!
If you were following along on Twitter during the awards you will know Alicia Vikander’s Louis Vuitton white dress will be on just about everyone’s best dressed list but it really did not do anything for me. Other stars who looked good, but played it too safe to make my best dressed list include Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Gina Rodriguez in Zac Posen, Kate Winslet in Ralph Lauren, and Sophia Bush in Narciso Rodriguez.
And because it can not be all rainbows and sunshine, there were a few stars that definitely missed the mark in my book. These dresses made my worst dressed list:
Amanda Peet in Alexander McQueen and Carly Chaikin
Kate Hudson in Michael Kors Collection and Kate Bosworth
Leslie Mann in Monique Lhuillier and Malin Akerman in Reem Acra
Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Haute Couture and Amy Schumer
There were many others who made my worst dressed list but let me tell you without my MacBook Pro and without Photoshop making even side by side images in Paint quite difficult so I will list them for you; Maura Tierney, Kat Kramer, Natalie Dormer, Jane Fonda, Olivia Palermo, Felicity Huffman, Jill Soloway, and Maril Davis.
Who do you think was the best dressed at the 2016 Golden Globes?
