My latest style icon is the terrific Victoria Beckham and some of you got a sneak peek of this yesterday, lucky you! Over the past twenty years Posh Spice has added singer, model, English businesswoman, fashion designer, and mother of four to her one sentence bio – a long way from the Spice Girl we loved to hate. While Posh’s clothes were fine – it is hard to go wrong with all black – her post-music career is what I have my eye on.
VB launched her eponymous label in 2008 and for the last seven years fans, critics, and celebrities has loved it. The Victoria Beckham label was actually named designer brand of the year in the UK in 2011 and for the past eight seasons it has been one of the most coveted tickets for New York Fashion Week. (Fingers crossed for February!) Take a look at nearly any photo of Mrs. Beckham in the last five years and you will catch her sleek polished look, sky high heels, and oversized shades – a combination I have come to love:
I do not usually show fourteen shots in a style icon post but there were too many great VB looks to choose from. You may have noticed the majority are street style shots as she is not a big red carpet lady but whichever way you cut it I think you will agree with me, she has come a long way since her Spice Girl days:
And to be honest, her style has also evolved even post-Spice Girls as she certainly has some huge early fashion disasters – especially during her blonde bob period – for example in a zebra-print leather bustier dress at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards or later that year in May where she forgot pants at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in London:
Don’t you agree? She has come a long way!
