I absolutely love picnics but since moving to the Upper East Side Saturday was the first afternoon I have spent lounging on the Great Lawn in Central Park with a picnic. This crossed off an item on my 101 in 1001 list but is something I will definitely do again soon, it was glorious. I brought a bottle of pinot grigio that was a left over from my classy cocktail party and picked up a delicious salad at a popular Upper East Side spot.
I think the Facebook status from my friend Caitlin said it best, “To everyone I know in NYC, you’re probably already in Central Park, so come find us!! — at Sheep’s Meadow.” We were in different parts of the park but it really did seem like everyone in the entire city was in the park.
There were a dozen girls in bathing suits was a bit much despite the fact that the weather was in the high 70s. We all kept our clothes on but did get a bit pink on our shoulders and tops of our noses. Two glasses of wine made our picnic that much more enjoyable. We set up our blankets near one of the baseball fields and loved watching a game of 3-4 year olds playing – they were adorable – and then had fun laughing at two teams of high school girls who took themselves way to seriously. When my friends dispersed for a break I took my camera and go up close and personal with some trees. Only about 15% are in bloom but those that are are stunning.
It was a glorious and I can not wait for another Central Park picnic!
