I went a few weeks ago with my mom and it was great! I thought about not posting these pictures because while I took my DSLR it turns out my lens was still cracked from fashion week so these pictures are taken from my phone. They are not of the quality I would like but it was a terrific day with my mom and I am not going to not post them. So, without further ado, the zoo:
I love the Bronx Zoo and have visited over 100 times. Yes, you read that correctly one-hundred times. I grew up just north of New York City and the zoo was only 20 minutes from my childhood home.
For a little history the Bronx Zoo first opened its gates in 1899 and at that time, the zoo exhibited 843 animals. I think it is fascinating that the owners of the land, Fordham University, sold it for only $1,000 with the condition that the land be used for a zoo and garden which became the Bronx Zoo and New York Botanical Garden Today, according to the Wildlife Conservation Society, the Zoo now has organization now houses over 4,500 on 265 acres.
And then, I must admit, I am an absolutely horrible blogger – I went on a blate, a bloggy date, with the most wonderful Karly Kim and we did not take a single photo together. Blogger fail. However, it was an absolutely wonderful afternoon. It turns out last year we lived three blocks apart in New York City and never met. We definitely made up for lost time though with brunch at Duck’s Eatery (yes, that is a PUMPKIN waffle) and a walk around the East Village. Karly is amazing and I can not wait to hang out again soon!
So there you go, the Bronx Zoo and a blate!
